Hope you are finding add’l resources to help you on your way – if there is a corn allergy stay away from it in all products to the best best best of your ability. If you live here in the states, this is tough because corn syrup is in lots of stuff –

if you haven’t checked it out yet – look for the largest health food store in your area – here we have wild oats and whole foods – you can find wheat free products(including breads) and you should be able to get corn free vitamins as well

This is a debatable issue. For actual allergies, I have no idea. I would imagine to be on the safe side to avoid them. Now i have Celiac Disease, and I cannot digest gluten. And contrary to what many Celiac’s say, current medical research indicates that gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin or lungs unless there is a open wound on the skin in which the gluten could enter the bloodstream. In other words, I use lotions, shampoos, etc with gluten and they do not bother me. BUT I am NOT allergic, I run no risk of anaphlaytic shock. I’d realy ask an allergist, but I’d err on the side of caution and say avoid them!!

As for your first question, whether you need to avoid personal care items that contain allergens depends on whether you react to those allergens in ways other than by ingesting them.

As to the other questions, how severe a sensitivity you have is determined by testing. You would have to see an allergist for this. Some foods are “free” of certain additives and you look for these and always check labels for ingredients. There’s no medication for food allergies. (Lactose intolerance, for example, is not a true allergy although there are lactase enzyme tablets that can be taken orally) You avoid the foods that contain the allergens.

It is best to prevent anything that you’re allergic to totally. Medications aren’t always neccessary as the effects may go away soon enuf. But if the allergy cause too much discomfort, seeing a doctor is always the best choice.

If you have an allergy to a certain substance then you should avoid any product that contains any amount. There was a young girl who had an allergy to shell fish when she was little. She avoided it so she wouldn’t get sick again. Then one day she was visiting a restaurant with her family and they had a food of the day, shell fish. Because she had grown into a healthy teen she thought she would “try” it again. Little did she know that was her last meal. She died less than 10 minutes after she began eating because of a severe allergy attack to this food. She was too far from help and no epi-pen and all efforts to resuscitate her didn’t help.

Always be cautious.

You should see your doctor about how serious your allergies are and if they are deadly then you should aviod all things with corn. If they are minor then you should still try to aviod them but at least it wont be as serious if you acciendtally get into corn.
